Environmental and Social Policy.
Our vision.
Little Umbrella Events aims to deliver events that are socially inclusive and environmentally conscious. We aim to reduce our own carbon footprint and those of the events that we manage, working with clients to build sustainability and inclusivity practices into their events from the outset. Our environmental and social policy sets out our commitments and why we implement these.
What we already do.
Environmental.
At Little Umbrella Events we have already adopted the following sustainability practices:
We consider the efficiency of transport and business travel, including considering whether to avoid travel. When this is required we use public transport for travelling to over 90% of our meetings and events. When this is not possible, eco-friendly vehicles are used.
Little Umbrella Events aspires to be a paperless business. However, if we need to print, we do this double-sided, whenever practical. We use recycled paper for our promotional and office materials.
Little Umbrella Events offices are powered by renewable energy providers.
We prioritise working with environmentally conscious event suppliers wherever possible and are always open to conversations with suppliers and venues to improve on their sustainability efforts.
We will always speak up where we see that more sustainable actions can be undertaken in our consultancy services.
Little Umbrella Events is a carbon neutral business, partnering with Carbon Neutral Britain to plant 30 trees each month.
Little Umbrella Events directors attend regular events and training opportunities to remain carbon literate and regularly participate in conversations about sustainability in the local economy.
Sustainability is baked into our event management processes, we will always provide sustainable event options to our clients where possible.
We manage waste generated from business operations according to the principles of reduction, reuse and recycling.
All waste produced by Little Umbrella Events is disposed of in a responsible way that shows concern for the environment.
Social Inclusion.
At Little Umbrella Events we have already adopted the following social inclusion practices:
Little Umbrella avoids investment in any industries with a negative social impact through socially responsible financial practices.
We encourage ethical behaviour and decision-making, not influenced by bribery or corruption, in our company and supply chain.
Little Umbrella Events complies with health and safety laws and standards, and looks to mitigate risks and provide safe and enjoyable places to work and enjoy events.
Little Umbrella Events maintains suitable privacy and data security measures in respect of all stakeholders, including event attendees. We undertake regular data compliance training.
The well-being of Little Umbrella Event workers is a priority, we maintain that every Little Umbrella Event should be a collaborative, rewarding, flexible, and inclusive place of work, free from discrimination, harassment or bullying under any circumstances.
Little Umbrella Events champions workplace learning, ensuring that training and further education is undertaken to support professional development.
We are passionate about our community and its culture. To support this we engage local suppliers wherever possible and endeavour to always pay these suppliers properly and on time.
We incorporate measures to make our events more inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. We listen, learn and adapt our events to the needs of our guests and clients and have developed a sustainbility and inclusivity promise to document our journey.
Practical next steps.
Travel.
We aim to maintain our low level of travel-based carbon emissions by committing to the use of public transport where possible.
We will advise all event management clients to include sustainable travel options for guests in the event communications and work with clients to minimise guest’s carbon emissions from travel.
Procurement.
We would like to contribute more towards a circular economy and sustainable supply chains. We aim to review our purchasing procedures for business operations to exclude the purchasing of items made from 100% virgin materials, prioritising any new items that are required to be made from recycled materials.
Food waste.
We will advise all event management clients to cater for an amount appropriate to the event size, and with a menu that minimises food waste and carbon emissions. We will work with suppliers so that food waste can either be redistributed in a socially impactful way or disposed of as responsibly as possible.
Inclusivity.
We will advise event management clients to include accessibility information for guests in their communications and provide opportunities for guests to share their specific requirements.
We prioritise working with clients and venues that share our accessibility and inclusion values.
Clients, staff and volunteers working on-site with Little Umbrella Events will be briefed on accessibility and inclusivity etiquette to make events welcoming to all guests.
We will always speak up where we see solutions that can be incorporated to make events and venues more accessible in our consultancy services.
Future Commitment
We commit to reviewing and updating these policies on a yearly basis.
